Changing the Air Filter in Your Bov

Changing the air filter on your Bov is well one of the simplest preventive measures you can take. A motor vehicle engine needs plentifulness of air to control efficiently and often times when the filter is neglected the engine becomes starved for air input. Most vehicle manuals recommend that you replace your filters at regular 12 month intervals or after 12,000 miles of operation. In order to start this task you should have the following tools and supplies readily at hand.

* Your new air filter
* Two screwdrivers, both a flat-head and a Philips
* An air hose to blow the filter out

First park your Bov in a level position, raise the hood of your vehicle and allow the engine to cool down. Check your owner's manual; or fix guide to locate your air filter. In the older vehicles it is readily recognized by the large bulky cover atop the engine while with the newer cars it might be contained in the quadrate housing nearby the front grill.

Upon observation, you will scrutinize that the filter cover is securely fastened by a series of metal clips attached to it. You can remove the cover by naturally sliding the flat head screwdriver in the middle of the clips and the air filter casing and gradually prying them apart. If you have one of the filters which are secured by long screws use the Philips screwdriver and remove the attached screws. On the older vehicles you generally remover the cover by loosening the wing nut attached on top.

When the filter cover is removed you should see the filter. Pull the filter out of the casing and jaunt to scrutinize it carefully. Hold the unit up towards the sun or a very involving light and look for any accumulation of dirt or grime. If the filter is excessively dirty you will need to replace it otherwise you may be able to use an air hose to blow out the debris. If you find that you must replace the air filter insert the new unit into the filter housing development unavoidable that the rubber rim is face-up. The rubber rim should seal the edges of the filter housing.

Next replace the air filter cover and reattach all clips or screws. Make well unavoidable that all hardware is securely fastened by attempting to move the unit with both of your hands. You job is completed and you probably invested a mere 20 minutes at most.
